Burnout Sucks.

You aren’t crazy. You’re burned out.

That feeling when you wake up, like your heart is going to pop out of your body. The cold sweats keeping you up through the night. The instant migraine. The 10 new pounds that appeared out of no where.

These are all effects of burn out. And they aren’t going away from one 10 minute meditation you found on youtube. Burn out is the culmination of chronic stress, typically built over time, from habits that starts as an aid to reaching your goals, but are leaving you anxious, confused, and frustrated.

Yes, the 10 minute meditation may provide momentary relief. But what you truly need is to heal, to experience deep rest and to rewire your perspective on leading. You need to realign with your values, so your actions have the impact you desire. And you need a clear strategy that is true to you. A strategy that supports your big goals.

Take the next three days to focus on the area that you need right now.

A healed perspective ——

  1. Choose rest, but getting 8-10 hours of sleep at night

  2. Take a nap during the day

  3. Begin to notice your thoughts, become aware of the way you are thinking about yourself and your circumstances (Be nice to yourself here! This can be very eye opening.)

  4. Write down 5 things you wish were true about your current situation

Aligned with your values ——

  1. Write down the name of 5 people you admire and why, this will often reveal your values. Anything missing from the list? Add it!

  2. Think about your week, what did you do? Does how you’re spending your time reflect your values? (Get curious & compassionate here. This is research, not self bullying time.)

  3. Look at your upcoming week. Is there anything you can rearrange, cancel, or add so your schedule reflects your values just 10% more?

Strategy that impacts ——

  1. With your new perspective in mind and your values a top priority, consider your current goals, do any of them need to change? Consider your “why” for leading your business, family, friends, team…

  2. Write down 1-3 goals. Then write down 4 things you need to do to reach those goals. Decide how much time you will give them.

  3. Schedule the tasks required to reach your goals. Give them a realistic amount of time to complete.

  4. Write down anything that would keep you from completing the tasks. Be honest with yourself, this will help in the long run.

  5. This part is critical — do the tasks when you say you’re going to do them. Done is factual. “Perfect” is fiction. Do you want pretend goals or completed goals? When you go to do the tasks, notice how you feel. Get curious again, just like you did with your thoughts. Notice if you want to make excuses, procrastinate, or half ass it. Be compassionate with yourself. This is where we pause and do yoga. This is where you actively choose to use your tools from healing & aligning to walk forward with ease. Pause to calm your mind, to remember your values, to remind your brain that it’s safe and capable.

I want to hear how it goes. What did you choose to focus on? How did it help?
