Creating Peace in Corporate America

When I first stumbled out of my burnout slumber, I could only see it as “my job’s fault.”

“They didn’t respect my boundaries.”

“They pushed me past my limits.”

“They expected me to do ____ and that’s not in my job description.” Fill in the blank depending on the day…

It wasn’t until I was a few months into a new job that I realized, I’M THE PROBLEM.

Maybe you’ve been there? Where it feels like all the stress is being put on you by others… only to find yourself in a new situation with the same issues.

Most people will go job to job, relationship to relationship, blaming everyone else for their stress and NEVER see the one common denominator.

It was humbling to say the least, but I desire to grow and throughout this time, I had become quite self aware…

So as I faced the same issue again and could feel burnout creeping up on me, I had to decide that it was no one elses responsibility but mine.

Here’s what I did:

  1. I doubled down on my yoga practice. It became a non-negotiable daily practice.

  2. I stopped working through lunch and started taking walking breaks.

  3. I kept my own boundaries and stopped expecting others to do it for me. I had to learn how to say no with confidence AND follow through on it.

I found that my work is always going to push my edges because I love working hard.. I love pushing the limits.. I love finding out what’s possible!

And so… it is up to ME to maintain inner peace as I find my limits.

And THAT is how I found peace in corporate America…. I stopped waiting for anyone else to create it for me and I made it just as big a priority as my next project.

You know what happened… the quality of my projects got better. My work became more efficient. My employers trusted me with more. PROFITS GREW!!

Wild how that works…

If you think it’s by neglecting yourself (ignoring your boundaries, overpromising, skipping meals) that you will get ahead, you will stay in the burnout cycle.

It’s actually by prioritizing your own peace, your own needs that you will be able to handle the stress and GROW from it to expand your own capacity, decreasing the impact of stress in the future.

If you need help, keep your eyes on my emails (you can join below), something special is coming for you on November 1st.

Cheers!

Kasidy
