4 Steps to Reduce Stress Around Body Image
Ugh! I used to hate when people would comment on my body..
“Your cheeks are so round!”
“You’re too skinny.”
“You’ve gained some weight.”
“I thought your boobs would be fake” - an actual gynecologist that I never went back to [obviously]
I believed for the longest time (literally until today when I’m writing this post) that the answer was to have a perfect body.
Yup, even as a self love coach.
It’s because I had forgotten to do the work in this area.
I spent years building self love for my mind, my life choices, my personality, but I was hanging on to the idea that if I had the perfect body then the comments would go away.
I was wrong for several reasons…
1. The perfect body is completely objective. We know beauty standards change drastically decade after decade. Nobody has the same opinion about the perfect body
2. People will always talk about something and I can’t control them. If I did achieve the impossible dream of having a “perfect body” for the world around me, they would just talk about that. Problem not solved.
So what the heck did I do about it?
What the heck do you do about it if you find yourself in this situation?
Here’s what you do:
1. Love the body you’re in (write down 20 things your body has done for you over your lifetime.)
2. Notice why you don’t like the comments, how you feel when hearing them
3. Observe what thoughts you are having about your body
4. Return to your list and add 5 more things. Each day. Until your mind starts to change.
Seriously! Watch your perspective transform as you celebrate your body.
Stress around weight, size, and shape can wear on you over time. You may have started the journey with excitement, but it’s taken it’s toll.
It’s impacting your perspective on who you are as a person…
It’s making your decisions for you…
I have been there.
And the answer isn’t a better weight loss routine or nutrition plan.
The answer is to reconnect with your True Self. The one that loves free from anxiety and fear. The one that lives free from stress. It’s from that place. From abundant self love. That you will make lasting, loving changes in your mind and body.
Maybe that means a smaller pant size.
Maybe that means loving the body you’re in.
Only YOU can truly know that. But it takes coming home to yourself to find it out.
I want to show you how to do just that.
